WRJW to host the 30th annual Texaco country showdown | Events
WRJW-The "30th Annual Texaco Country Showdown" is coming back to Picayune, Mississippi, on Saturday, October 1st, at the Picayune School Auditorium. WRJW Radio will host America's largest country music talent search and radio promotion, with the help of many local business sponsors. Approximately $200,000 in cash and prizes will be awarded nationwide including the Grand Prize of $100,000 cash to the National Winner, presented at the National Final televised special. Locally, WRJW will award their winner a $100 cash award, a nice trophy, framed poster, a one week vacation to either Orlanda, FL or Nashville, TN, and many other prizes provided by local sponsors.
Designed to find the most promising country music talent in the United States for the past thirty years, the Texaco Country Showdown gives aspiring artists a chance to launch their professional careers. Thousands of performers compete annually for the Country Showdown title.
Each year hometown talent contests sponsored by over five hundred local radio stations across the country pave the road to stardom for local talent. Local winners advance to over forty state contests where the prizes include $1,000 in cash and the opportunity to compete at one of five regional contests in the fall. The five regional winners receive an expense-paid trip to the National Final to compete for $100,000 and the coveted National Title.
"We consider the Texaco Country Showdown one of the most anticipated events in country music for Picayune each year," said Delores Wood, General Manager of WRJW Radio. "It is an exciting community event that provides aspiring artists in our area an opportunity for state, regional, and national exposure while promoting a greater appreciation of country music. We are pleased and proud to join our many local sponsors in the 30th Annual Texaco Country Showdown. Each year the audience is able to hear professional quality country artists for a minimal admittance fee"
Open to vocal and/or instrumental performers, the Texaco Country Showdown welcomes individual acts or groups with up to seven members to compete. Acts also must not have performed on a record charted in the top 100 country format of Billboard, Radio and Records, or the Gavin Report within eighteen months preceding local competition. A $20.00 entry fee is required of all acts entering the Texaco Country Showdown competitions produced by participating country music radio stations. To ensure fairness, a uniform judging system is used on all levels of competition. Entry forms are available at WRJW Radio station, by emailing email@example.com, or by calling 601-798-4835. You may also visit www.wrjwradio.com and click on the showdown banner for information, application forms and other necessary forms.
Contestants who have participated in an earlier showdown may enter WRJW's local contest if they are no longer in the competition, which means they must have been eliminated in an earlier contest. WRJW has contestants from all across the United States enter their local Showdown each year, and the 12 best acts are selected to perform live at the local contest. Deadline to enter Picayune's Texaco Country Showdown is Friday, September 16th. You may enter via email if you wish, by sending your entry form, professional portrait, biography, and three audition songs to firstname.lastname@example.org. The final 12 contestants will be featured in one hour "preview" radio shows that will be on WRJW the week prior to Picayune's contest.
