Local country artist to be featured in national talent contest | Arts & Culture
Anticipation and excitement is higher than ever as a local aspiring country music artist prepares for the 30th Annual Texaco Country Showdown at the Picayune Auditorium, Goodyear Boulevard, in Picayune, MS, on Saturday, October 1st. WRJW Radio will host America's largest country music talent search and radio promotion, sponsored by Alexander Home & Auto, Auto Word Finance, American Glass, Daydreamers Chrome Shack, Dependable Automotive, Harrison Finance, M & M Grafix, Sonnet's Dance & Hip Hop Studio, NOLA Athletics, Axcess Medical, Grande Oaks Apartments, Southern Institute for the Performing Voice, US Aluminum, Chango Botanica, Avalon Marble, Gator Me Crazy Restaurant, Pediatric Speech Therapy Clinic, and Claiborne Hill Supermarket.
The Picayune Auditorium, located on Goodyear Boulevard, next to Picayune Schools, will provide the perfect atmosphere to feature the best and most entertaining talent in the nation. Judges for this year's competition have been selected, and all are veteran performers or music writers.
The 12 acts will compete for wonderful prizes, including $100 cash, a family vacation to either Nashville or Orlando, a beautiful trophy or plaque, and other prizes donated by sponsors. The winner of this contest will represent Picayune at the Mississippi State Texaco Country Showdown to be held at the Mississippi State Fair on October 14th. State winners vie for a $1,000 cash prize and will advance to a regional competition in the fall. The five regional winners are awarded an all-expense paid trip to the National Final, where they will compete for the $100,000 Grand Prize and the National Title.
The Texaco Country Showdown gives aspiring country music artists in America a chance to launch their professional careers. Audiences may be seeing, hearing and applauding the next country music star.
Open to vocal and/or instrumental performers, the Texaco Country Showdown welcomes individual acts or groups with up to seven members to compete. Acts also must not have performed on a record charted in the 100 country format of Billboard, Radio & Records, or the Gavin Report within eighteen months preceding the local competition. To ensure fairness, a uniform judging system is used on all levels of competition.
Thirty seven entertainers from across the United States entered the preliminary contest in Picayune. Of these, 12 of the best were chosen by judges to advance to the local contest in Picayune. The twelve chosen are:

The 30th annual Texaco country showdown takes place Saturday, October 1 at the Picayune Auditorium located off of Goodyear Blvd. in Picayune.
Tickets to the contest are on sale now, $5.00 in advance or $7.00 at the door. Tickets may be purchased at WRJW Radio, by calling 601-798-4835. Doorprizes to be given away include tickets to Dolly Parton in concert, tickets to Reba McIntire concert, tickets to the Audubon Zoo, Global Wildlife Safari Tour, InstaGator Ranch, and others.
